shy, gentle, curious

friendship across differences

Rax peeks from behind a giant fern. Something flashes — bright blue — and vanishes among the flowers. A dinosaur he has never seen bounces on a pterodactyl-shaped cloud. "Hey! Want to bounce?" it calls. Rax freezes. His claws dig into the soft moss.

Rax steps forward. Squelch. A patch of sticky sap catches his foot. The blue dinosaur hops over, gentle claws wrapping around Rax's leg, and pulls him free. "I'm Yoshi!" it says, eyes bright. "You're so… pointy!" Rax blinks. A giggle escapes. He presses his snout against rough cycad bark. "I'm Rax," he says. "I'm usually quiet."

They walk together through the flower-dotted meadow. A soft hum fills the air. Between two ferns, something glows — a smooth purple stone, pulsing like a slow heartbeat. Rax crouches. Yoshi crouches. Neither reaches out. Not yet.

Rax touches the stone with one claw. Yoshi touches it with both. The stone flares — shimmering images rise into the air. Rax sees his pine forest, tall and shadowy. Yoshi sees her flower fields, drenched in gold. They gasp. Then the images blur and melt into one — a meadow neither has ever seen.

The merged image hangs in the air, glowing. Rax watches it. He thinks: that could be my forest. That could be my meadow. Yoshi watches too. Her eyes go wide. "We could show each other," Rax says, voice steady. "Our worlds."

Yoshi nods. They dig together — paws and claws scuffling through soft earth. A small pool takes shape. They step back. The water shivers. For a moment, it shows nothing. Then it shows everything.

The pool ripples. Shadows of pine trees swim across the water. Bright patches of yellow flowers flicker on the surface too. Rax leans closer. Yoshi leans closer. Their reflections meet in the middle — two small dinosaurs, side by side, staring at a world that now belongs to both.

Rax sits. Yoshi sits. The pool keeps dancing — forests and meadows, all reflected, all real. Rax thinks: I am not quiet anymore. He does not say it. He does not need to.
