The cat is curled on the sun-warmed mat. A loud BANG shakes the house!
The cat bolts! Sam chases after it, calling, "Cat! Cat!" He follows tiny paw prints along the sidewalk.
Past the park. Past the store. Around the big oak tree. The cat keeps vanishing.
Sam spots the cat hiding behind a tall green hedge. He calls softly, but it won't come out.
Sam sits. He taps his fingers. When he peeks — the hedge is empty!
There! Behind the big yellow recycling box. The cat trembles, eyes wide.
Sam drops to his knees. "Come, cat," he whispers.
The cat darts forward — straight past Sam — and races into the house!
Sam steps inside. The cat leaps back onto the sun-warmed mat, curling into a tight loop.
The cat purrs loudly. Sam sits beside it and rests a hand on its soft fur.
The sun feels good. The cat feels good. Sam stays right there.
The house is quiet again.
