Santa Claus lifted his giant red sack onto the sleigh. It was heavy. Every corner bulged.
His beard fluttered in the cold wind. He patted the sleigh. Off they went.
He flew from house to house. In each home he left toys by the tree. Jingle, jingle went the reins.
The children giggled in their sleep. He placed a box under the tree and moved on.
In one small house, a girl woke up. She smiled. She held out a shiny red apple.
He took it. His cheeks glow pink in the firelight. Thank you.
Santa Claus bit into the apple. Sweet juice ran down his chin. He laughed.
He patted the empty sleigh. Home, old friend. Home.
