Sofi and Lore tape glowing pink letters onto a wooden board — SOFIELLE. Juli steps back, hands on hips, eyes bright as first morning light. The mall hums around their tiny storefront. They line up ribbons and tiny clothes along the counter.
A woman steps inside and browses the scarves. Sofi offers her smallest smile. The woman shakes her head and walks out without a word. Sofi traces the SOFIELLE letters on the glass door.
A boy points at a toy dress. Sofi crouches beside him and explains the stitching. The boy giggles when the tiny buttons pop off. He runs back with two friends — they all beg to try on the mini jackets.
The bell jingles nonstop. Lore counts coins, cheeks flushed. Juli rearranges the display with a satisfied hum. Sofi glances across the hall at the rival store — professional mannequins, uniformed salespeople — and her shoulders drop.
That evening, the mall is nearly empty. Sofi sits alone on a bench outside the closed shop. Lore and Juli find her and sit on either side. Lore tosses a ribbon into the air. Sofi watches it twirl and feels her hands unclench.
They work until midnight. Lore untangles a massive knot of ribbon, Juli polishes the brass doorknob until it shines, and Sofi writes Welcome on a chalkboard. The SOFIELLE sign glows softly in the half-dark.
Opening morning arrives loud and chaotic. Customers spill in, laughing and trying on pieces. Sofi, Lore, and Juli guide them all at once. Across the hall, the rival store owner watches from the crowd — then disappears.
By afternoon, the shop is quiet. Ribbons scatter the floor; empty hangers sway gently. Sofi leans against the counter, watching Lore and Juli compare receipts. The SOFIELLE sign catches the sun and throws a soft pink glow across the whole room.
