Sofi pressed the gold SOFIGIELLE sticker flat against the glass. The sharp rip of tape echoed through the empty mall corridor. She stepped back to admire the shimmering pink boxes arranged like jewels. Fresh ink from her hand-printed labels hung in the air.
A stray shopping cart rattled toward her feet. Sofi frantically grabbed a velvet cloth to polish a smudge on the front window. Her elbow knocked over a stack of sample compacts. They scattered across the tile floor with a clatter that sounded like falling rain.
She knelt to gather the fallen products, brushing dust off a lipstick tube. It glittered under the fluorescent lights. Her shoulders slumped as she realized she needed help to set up the final mirror before opening time. A shadow fell across her vision.
Giuli and Lore dropped their bags and immediately started organizing the messy rows of brushes by color. They hummed a tune that matched the mall’s background music. Sofi watched them work, feeling the cool smoothness of a newly aligned display shelf under her fingertips.
The boutique suddenly felt less lonely and more alive. Sofi flipped the sign to 'OPEN' and watched a young girl walk in. Eyes wide at the rainbow of colors on the counter, the new visitor picked up a purple eyeshadow palette. She smiled and pointed to Sofi for advice.
Sofi handed her the palette, ready to share the magic they created together. The new customer traced the edges of the purple pans with wonder. Sofi leaned in, whispering tips about blending shades. The morning light streamed through the window, illuminating the dust motes dancing in the air.
Outside, the mall began to fill with shoppers. Inside, the first sale was complete. Sofi adjusted her apron and looked at her friends. They exchanged a quick glance, knowing this was just the beginning of their busy day.
The bell above the door chimed again. Another customer stepped inside, drawn by the vibrant colors. Sofi greeted her with a bright smile. The magic of SOFIGIELLE had truly begun.
