Sweepy stood in the dim corner behind the toy box. Dust motes floated in the slanting sunbeam. The floorboards creaked. Someone was coming.
A little boy tiptoed in. He spotted the yellow broom. 'You!' he said, and lifted him high. The blue mop and red pail rattled behind him.
Sweepy swept one big line across the floor. A cloud of dust whooshed up. The boy sneezed. The blue mop pointed at a pile of crumbs.
Sweepy swept. The blue mop wrung. The red pail caught the dirty water. Sweep, sweep — squeak. Sweep, sweep — splash.
Sweepy swept harder. The blue mop wrung again. The red pail gurgled. The floor was getting cleaner with every pass.
Sweep, sweep, sweep. The blue mop squeaked. The red pail splashed. The floor gleamed under their work.
Sweepy swept, the blue mop wrung, and the red pail caught every drip. Sweep, sweep, sweep — then a squeak and a splash. The floor gleamed.
Sweepy stood straight beside the blue mop and red pail. The sun painted a golden rectangle across the spotless floor. Every toy sat where it belonged.
