The morning mist still clung to the stone porch as Papa Rabbit settled onto the cool flagstones. A steaming teapot sat between his paws.
He lifted the teapot with both paws and tipped it slowly. The tea poured into a tiny porcelain cup with a soft clink.
At the edge of the garden path, a little red fox appeared. His small hands held a handful of wild mint, and his smile peeked out shyly.
Papa Rabbit reached for the teapot but it was too heavy for one paw. It tilted and wobbled. The fox hopped forward and steadied the other side.
Both pulled at the teapot, backsides wiggling. Then — poof! The lid flew off and mint leaves scattered across the porch like tiny green frogs.
Papa Rabbit's ears shot straight up. He threw his head back and let out a big laugh. The fox covered his mouth with both paws, shoulders shaking.
They both dipped their paws into the green pile and carefully gathered the mint leaves into a small bowl. No leaf went to waste.
Papa Rabbit poured the fresh mint into the teapot and topped it with hot water. Steam rose up in fragrant curls.
They poured two cups and sat side by side on the warm stone steps. The fox took a slow sip and his eyes grew wide.
They sipped slowly together as the forest sun warmed their whiskers. Papa Rabbit thought: some mornings are better shared.
