In Numberland, Numeron tiptoes across the big square — but his giant feet crack the pavement with every step.
The number tiles scatter everywhere. Equation signs topple with loud clatters. Other Numberblocks press against the walls and watch with wide eyes.
Numeron tries to squeeze between Two and Three, but his corners poke out both sides.
He lets out a small sad breath. The wind from it blows the smaller Numberblocks' hats right off. They shuffle away and whisper behind their hands.
CRACK! A giant boulder breaks loose from Math Mountain and starts rolling straight toward the Numberblock village.
Everyone freezes. Two bounces in place. Four starts to tremble. The boulder fills the whole sky with a thundering rumble.
Numeron charges forward. He opens his wide square body like a giant lid — and catches the boulder with a tremendous THUD.
Dust floats in the golden afternoon light. The boulder sits perfectly still inside his square frame.
The other Numberblocks cheer. Two does a happy little bounce right up against Numeron's side.
Four climbs onto Numeron's corner. They sit together watching the sunset paint Numberland in warm orange.
The sun dips lower, turning the whole of Numberland into a soft glowing orange.
Numeron is big. But he is also brave.
