Grey walked across the flat grey sand. Everything was grey — the beach, the sea, the buildings. Even the sky was grey.
A stone man stood at the edge of the water. His arm was stretched out. Something shiny hung from his hand — a thin red thread.
Grey tugged the red thread. The ground rumbled. A cloud shot up from the sand with a loud POP!
Thunder rumbled. Grey rain fell all around her. The world got slick and cold. Grey reached for the thread again.
Another POP! A grey bird flew out of the ground. It landed on the stone man's shoulder. The bird shook itself hard.
A single drop of blue fell from the bird. It hit the grey sand with a soft splat. Grey knelt down and touched it.
The blue spread fast. It rolled across the sand like a wave. Grey stones turned pink. Grey waves turned purple.
Colour ran over the sculpture and up the buildings. Grey thought — one more pull. She grabbed the thread and tugged it hard.
GOLD light burst from the ground! It covered everything — the sand, the sea, the sky. The whole world glowed warm and bright.
Grey stood in the bright colour and smiled wide. The grey world was finished. Now it was beautiful.
