curiosity meets wonder

Angel's small fishing boat drifted through the wall of white mist. The waves pushed gently against the hull as the current pulled her toward something unseen. Then the boat shuddered, tilting hard to one side. With a crash of timber and spray, it grounded itself on black sand.

She stepped onto the beach, boots sinking slightly into the damp sand. The wood of the boat creaked beneath her weight. Silence stretched so thick that every breath sounded loud. She stood alone on the strange shore, unsure which way led home.

A trail of enormous three-toed footprints led inland through towering ferns. Angel followed them, her hand brushing against leaves that whispered against her legs. The ground trembled faintly with each step. Something massive was moving through the mist ahead.

A low rumble shook the ground. From the mist, a massive shape rose - a Spinosaurus with iridescent scales that shimmered blue and green. Its great sail striped like storm clouds. It stood taller than the ancient trees, golden eye fixed on her.

Angel froze. Then she slowly knelt, pulling a charcoal sketchbook from her bag. She flipped to a page filled with drawings she'd kept for years. The Spinosaurus lowered its great head, sniffing the air near her. She thought about how beautiful the creature was.

She held out her hand, palm flat and still. The Spinosaurus pressed its snout against her fingers. Warm and rough, like touching ancient tree bark. A sound escaped her - half-laugh, half-sob. The creature blinked its golden eye, then turned and melted back into the mist.

Angel walked back to the shore, boots heavy in the sand. She pushed her boat into the water, wood groaning as it floated. But instead of turning homeward, she faced the island again. The mist parted just enough to show a distant shape at the swamp's edge.

She climbed into the boat and took up the oars. The current caught the hull, pulling her toward the mist. As she rowed, the fog thinned slightly. Through the veil, she could see it - the Spinosaurus watching from the swamp, waiting.

The boat drifted closer to the island shore. Angel set down her oars and sat still, watching. The Spinosaurus did not move, did not retreat. It simply stood there, golden eye fixed on her through the swirling white fog.

Angel reached the black-sand shore again. She stepped onto the familiar beach and looked out at the water. The mist had thinned to a pale veil. Behind her, the island waited - ancient, wild, and full of wonder.
