Cora lifted the heavy lighthouse lantern. Something crinkled inside. A faded map tumbled into her lap.
She folded the map carefully and stepped outside before sunrise. The wind smelled like salt and wet stone.
Cora followed the map past three boulders and a crooked driftwood post.
At the fourth mark, she saw something dark tangled in old fishing nets near the water.
It was a sea turtle, stuck and breathing slowly. Cora tugged and pulled at the knotted nets until one finally gave way.
The turtle blinked at her, then slid into the sea just as the sun painted the sky gold.
Cora stood on the wet rocks and watched the turtle swim away. She tucked the map into her pocket and walked back up the cliff.
She hummed a happy song all the way up the path.
