Tenzin Nyima raced across the playground at Bylakuppe Tibetan Homes School. She skidded beside a tiny ant trapped in a puddle. “Oh!” she whispered.
The ant paddled in circles. Tenzin Nyima searched the ground and found a dry leaf. “Try this,” she said.
The ant climbed onto the leaf. WHOOSH! A gust flipped it like a little boat, and the leaf skittered toward the sandbox.
Tenzin Nyima chased the runaway leaf past the slide. It slipped under a bench, then the ant tumbled off beside a crack between two paving stones.
Sand trickled down with a soft hiss. Tenzin Nyima knelt close and watched the ant search for a way out.
Tenzin Nyima found a twig and brushed the sand aside. She made a tiny path leading toward the grass.
The ant started along the path, then stopped at a pebble as big as a hill. Tenzin Nyima tapped it. “Which way now?”
Tenzin Nyima gently lifted the pebble with the twig. The ant hurried onto the grass, disappearing safely among the green blades.
