Mama held out a small brown paper packet. 'Plant these,' she said. Milo filled his pockets with tiny seeds and marched to the soft green grass.
Milo patted the dirt flat and waited. Nothing happened. He pressed his ear to the ground and heard only a bumblebee humming by.
Milo tilted the red watering can — slosh, splash — right onto the patch. Then he leaned close and whispered, 'Grow.'
The soil bubbled and gurgled. A single green sprout popped straight up, wiggling its two leaves like tiny hands.
Milo gasped. The sprout cracked open and revealed a golden sunflower. He stared at the bright face turned toward him.
His blue fur fluffed wide with wonder. The sunflower's warm face glowed toward him.
Milo sat cross-legged beside the sunflower. He breathed in the warm, earthy smell of the garden.
A happy feeling bubbled inside. Milo smiled at the sunflower, and the sunflower seemed to smile back.
