In the quiet library, Elara found a loose shelf board. Behind it waited a dusty book with a golden cover.
The golden cover popped open. “Oh!” cried Elara as a fox leaped onto the rug and pattered away, scattering bookmarks.
Elara turned a page. A red kite flew out, swooping between the shelves while the fox chased its fluttering tail.
The string tugged and zipped through Elara’s fingers. Paper rustled, giggles bounced off the windows, and the kite looped higher.
Elara flipped another page, but the fox and kite did not return. A dragon, a boat, and a moon spilled from the pictures instead.
The dragon sneezed. “Achoo!” Three books tumbled onto the floor, and Elara scrambled after the runaway pictures.
At last, Elara reached the final page. It was blank, while the loose stories whirled around the library.
Elara picked up a pencil and drew a door, a bright path, and three words: “Everyone goes home!”
The drawing shone like a tiny sunrise. The fox trotted through the door, and the kite zipped into its picture.
The dragon gave one last enormous sneeze and popped safely back into the book. Elara closed the cover and smiled at the quiet pages.
