Miftahu pushed the lid open. He gasped. Golden mangoes, coconut candies, and puff-puff cubes shimmered inside.
Dayyan toddled in and reached for a treat. Miftahu whirled the basket behind his back. "Mine!" he said.
The basket hummed like a sleepy bee. Dayyan didn't reach again. He sat on the rug and picked at a loose thread.
Pop! A golden mango floated up and hovered right in front of Dayyan's nose. He blinked. Miftahu blinked.
Dayyan giggled and grabbed for the mango. It zipped away like a bird. The puff-puff bounced off Miftahu's knee and rolled under the sofa.
The basket shook, spilling treats everywhere. Miftahu sat down hard on the rug. His lower lip trembled.
He picked up a coconut candy and held it out. "For you," he said. Dayyan took it. The basket erupted in golden light.
Twice as many treats appeared, doubling and tripling, filling the living room. A rainbow sweet bounced off Miftahu's nose and landed in Dayyan's open mouth.
Dayyan's eyes went wide. Miftahu started laughing so hard he fell backward onto the pile of treats.
They passed treats back and forth. Every time they shared one, two more appeared. The basket glowed soft and warm. Miftahu smiled back.
