Mira ran down the city street as the sky turned orange and purple.
Her sneakers drummed on the pavement. The street buzzed with blenders and car horns and people going everywhere.
At the corner stood a tall figure — black cape, black mask, broad shoulders.
Mira skidded to a halt. A bus rumbled past — and for one second she couldn't see him at all.
Mira crept forward, peering up at the black mask.
The figure slowly lowered his head. Their eyes locked — and Mira's breath caught. She knew those eyes. Those were her eyes.
Mira stepped right up and took the figure's gloved hand.
The cape shifted. A low hum vibrated through his chest. Mira squeezed his hand back.
She smiled.
Mira walked away, her steps light and sure.
The street lights flickered on one by one.
Behind her, the black cape swayed once — then he was gone.
