A flickering light danced ahead. Morrow followed it along the moonlit cobblestones toward the grand mansion.
Thunder boomed. The door slammed behind Morrow, and a tiny echo whispered, “Hello?”
Morrow crossed the shadowy hall. A staircase groaned, and the mirror squeaked back.
Every frightened sound came back as a lonely echo. Morrow gripped the silver key and called, “Is someone there?”
The echoes led Morrow past twisted gardens and misty windows. At last, Morrow found a sealed music-room door.
Once—click. Twice—clack. Three times—POP! The silver key sprang into a dusty vase.
Morrow reached into the vase and turned the silver key. The lock answered with a bright click.
The door burst open with a musical BOOM! A sleepy piano played one soft note, and Morrow laughed.
Morrow stepped inside and gently played the piano. The echoes hummed along.
A warm song filled the mansion. Misty windows glowed, and lonely echoes became cheerful music.
Morrow followed the melody through the gentle rooms. Outside, the storm faded beyond the quiet woods.
The last rumble rolled away. Music drifted through the mansion, and Morrow kept walking beneath the moonlight.
