Layla stood beside the white car. Its trunk glowed warm and gold. What could be inside?
She held her red balloon close and peered into the glowing trunk.
Bags stacked inside. Something wrapped in shiny paper tucked behind them. She reached—but stopped.
She turned away. The balloon floated beside her. Then—a hand on her shoulder.
She jumped around. Her friend stood there, smiling, holding out a wrapped gift.
"It's for you," her friend said. "I saw the car and thought you might like it."
Layla took the gift and peeled back the paper. Inside was a tiny star.
Her friend smiled. Layla looked up and smiled back so wide it felt like the whole street could see.
Layla pressed the button. The star blossomed golden, and the sidewalk sparkled.
Golden sparks traced along the sidewalk. The red balloon drifted beside the light. Everything shimmered with joy.
