Milo pressed his nose against the window. Tap tap tap went the rain. "Can we go out?" Mom shook her head. "Too wet," she said.
Milo spread cards across the kitchen table. Flip, swap, deal. His brother built a tall tower. Tick. Tick. Milo kept peeking out the window.
The tower crashed. Clatter. "Again?" his brother asked. Milo folded a card into a little boat and set it on the windowsill. It bobbed on a raindrop.
A car zoomed by. SPLASH! Water hit the window. Milo jumped. The card boat floated away. Too late.
They waited. The rain slowed. Sunlight spilled through the window. They grabbed their rain boots and ran outside.
The whole neighborhood was covered in puddles. Milo stomped. SPLASH. His brother stomped. SPLASH. They stomped together.
Milo dropped a crunchy leaf into the biggest puddle. It circled round and round. His brother dropped another. Then a twig.
They raced their leaf boats. Milo's zoomed ahead. His brother's sank with a tiny bubble.
Milo giggled. "Your turn!" his brother said.
The sun warmed the wet pavement. They sat on the front steps. Their boots were caked with mud. Their hair was still damp.
Milo watched the last puddle shrink away. His brother nudged him with an elbow.
Milo smiled.
