At Mare de Déu del Roser School, Roser pulled open a dusty classroom door. Flap, flap, flop! Old papers slid into the hallway, carrying the smell of chalk.
Roser gathered the papers one by one. A name, a date, and a tiny drawing waited on every page. “Where did you come from?” Roser wondered.
The papers led Roser into an older classroom. Floorboards creaked as Roser traced names carved into a wooden desk. Each name opened another story.
Roser followed the next clue through the school. In one room, drawings, notebooks, and classroom tools lined the walls. The school seemed to keep turning its pages.
Roser tried a slate, then rang the old school bell. CLANG! A pigeon burst from the window, and Roser laughed. Then Roser spotted one empty space on the wall.
Roser sat near the open window and drew. Roser filled the page with the classroom, the schoolyard, and a favorite memory. “This belongs here,” Roser thought.
WHOOSH! A gust swept the picture down the hall. Roser raced after it, caught the paper beside the old drawings, and pinned it into the empty space.
The paper fluttered beside the older children’s work. Roser stepped back and saw yesterday, today, and one new memory sharing the same wall.
