The Whispering Clouds shivered — then went still. A cloud-petal drifted down. It landed on her nose. Ticklish! She jumped into her pink-sailed boat and pushed off.
She rowed hard. The pink sail caught the wind. She blew her wooden whistle — the note hung in the air. No answer. She rowed faster, past a waterfall splashing into the sea below.
She spotted the shimmering castle atop the highest cloud-island. A rainbow arched low. She leaped — onto the rainbow! It wobbled like a trampoline. She giggled as a cloud-mist droplet landed on her cheek, cold and sweet.
She reached the cloud kingdom. The clouds were silent. She put away her whistle and began to sing the lullaby she heard every night. Her voice was small but steady.
The clouds trembled. They pulsed with silver light. One drifted down and nuzzled her hand — warm and soft.
She climbed back into her pink-sailed boat. The clouds sang a gentle melody overhead. She rowed toward home.
Below, the village came alive. Laughter and dancing filled the streets. She listened to the clouds' song as she rowed.
She leaned back, content. The Whispering Clouds kept watch over everything.
