A great wave flung Rusty onto the island. He rolled through bright flowers and landed beside a sleeping seal.

Clang! Rusty’s metal feet struck a rock. The startled seal splashed away, leaving silver drops dancing in the air.

Rusty followed the seal’s trail to the shore. There, a turtle struggled inside a tangled fishing net.

Snip, snip. Rusty cut each strand slowly, while the turtle watched the tiny tool and tapped his foot once.

Under the tall trees, Rusty carried fallen fruit to the hungry animals. A cheeky monkey grabbed his shiny nose.

“Beep-beep!” Rusty spun in circles. Flowers shook, fruit bounced, and the monkey clung to a branch, laughing.

Then a storm tore a young bird’s nest from a branch. The nest skittered across the rocks as rain began to rattle.

Rusty braced against the wind and gathered the nest. Rain rattled loudly across his metal back as he climbed.

At last, Rusty placed the nest safely in the tree. The young bird fluttered close, and the storm began to pass.

The animals gathered instead of running away. The seal nudged Rusty’s foot, the turtle tapped twice, and the monkey returned his shiny nose.

Together, they watched the sun sparkle across the sea. Rusty made one small sound: “Beep.”

A soft wave folded onto the shore. Flowers nodded in the breeze, and the island glittered after the rain.
