Timmy pushes through the bushes and stops. Three stumps sit where the big oak trees used to be. A woodchopper's truck rumbles away down the dirt road.
Timmy stamps his foot. 'We're fixing this,' he says, and marches into the forest. He taps a hollow log three times — tap, tap, tap.
The animals begin to gather: a squirrel, a rabbit, and a bluebird.
The animals carry saplings while Timmy hammers nails into a wooden board. Suddenly a gust of wind snatches the sign and flips it face-down in the dirt.
The squirrel gasps. Timmy bends down, picks it up, and holds it tight against his chest.
Timmy digs a hole. The rabbit digs another. The bluebird drops a seed.
They plant the saplings in a row — one, two, three — and Timmy props the sign upright in the soft earth beside them.
Timmy stands with his hands on his hips and looks at the row of green saplings.
The sign catches the breeze and flaps gently. A butterfly lands on the letter S.
Timmy smiles.
