Sneakers squeaked across the school gym. Thiago and Nelson raced toward a laundry-basket hoop, dribbling hard. “The NBA cannot hide forever!” they shouted.
Thiago’s shot blasted through the net and smacked the cone stack. Clatter! Orange cones tumbled everywhere. He caught the last wobbling cone as Nelson laughed beside him.
Outside, they practiced quick passes beneath a windy sky. A sudden gust sent the ball rolling under the bleachers. Thiago crawled after it while Nelson stretched flat from the opposite side.
Pop! The ball rolled out wearing a dusty sock like a hat. For one second, both players stared. Then their laughter bounced beneath the bleachers, and the sock became part of their new passing drill.
They trained through missed shots, slippery pavement, and tired legs. Before every attempt, one call rang out: “Together!” When Thiago stumbled, Nelson retrieved the ball and offered a hand.
Pass after pass, they kept moving. Squeak—catch. Squeak—turn. Squeak—shoot. The court echoed with their voices until even the missed balls seemed to point toward tomorrow.
At the packed arena tryout, the final play began with three seconds glowing on the clock. Thiago passed to Nelson, but a defender blocked the lane. Nelson faked a shot and sent the ball back.
Thiago sprinted beneath the roaring stands. He caught Nelson’s return pass and launched the ball just before the buzzer. The shot arced high, then dropped cleanly through the net.
Under bright arena lights, Thiago and Nelson lifted the NBA trophy together. Thiago tapped its shining side while Nelson raised their basketball. The crowd thundered, “Together!” Then they began practicing their next pass.
The ball flew from Thiago to Nelson and back again. One pass, two passes, countless more. Beneath the chanting crowd, their next dream was already moving.
