Tripp pushed through giant fern fronds. Beyond them, a valley blazed with glowing pink and purple flowers.
He stepped forward. Squish! One foot sank into soft moss, and Tripp froze beside the sparkling stones.
A spotted pterosaur swooped down and landed beside him. It bobbed twice, then flapped slowly. “Stay,” Tripp thought.
The pterosaur led deeper between the ferns. Behind one broad leaf, a small dinosaur peeked out and watched.
Tripp offered a cluster of sweet berries. The little dinosaur nibbled one and giggled. “More?” Tripp asked.
A bright green ankylosaur waddled over and bumped Tripp’s leg with its bony tail. Tripp blinked, then smiled.
BOOM! The ground shuddered. Orange sparks burst from a volcano on the far ridge.
Tripp’s eyes went wide. His three horns dipped low, and he stamped once—HARD! The pterosaur shrieked and flew upward.
The small dinosaur bolted. The ankylosaur curled into an armored ball, while Tripp stood between them and the shaking valley.
Tripp took one deep breath. He lowered his head and pointed his middle horn toward a narrow path through the trees.
The pterosaur followed the horn. Then the small dinosaur followed. Last, the ankylosaur unc curled and waddled after them.
They reached a cool cave beside a rushing stream. Outside, the pink and purple flowers glowed quietly beneath the smoky sky.
