Tyson's red ball rolled under the swing set. He crawled after it, and his shoulder bumped something soft.
He saw a girl sitting on the bench nearby. Her hair was a blonde bun, glowing in the sun.
Tyson slowly backed away. The girl smiled and pulled something out of her bag.
Tyson crept closer. The kite dipped and swooped. He reached for it — and she gently lowered it to the ground.
He sat down. The grass was cool and scratchy against his palms. She stayed on the bench, watching him.
Tyson picked up the kite and held it toward her. She took it slowly. Her fingers brushed his.
The kite caught a gust and flew up — just a little. It looped in the air between them.
Tyson laughed, a loud, surprised sound. The girl smiled and looked right at him.
Tyson walked over and sat right next to her on the bench. His red ball rolled to a stop against her shoe.
She picked it up and handed it back. Tyson held the ball in one hand and the kite in the other.
