Vicky sprints across the tall green grass. Her legs pump fast as she chases a floating dandelion seed.
The seed dances just out of reach. Vicky trips over her own feet and tumbles into a soft pile of clover.
Her knees are dusty, but she giggles at the tickle in her nose. Dad catches her in his arms and spins her around.
The wind whistles in her ears as they laugh together. Mom and brother join the spin, forming a human whirlwind.
They stomp and jump, shaking dry leaves off the nearby trees. The sun begins to dip lower in the sky.
Vicky leans against Dad’s warm leg, watching the fireflies blink awake in the darkening field.
More fireflies join the dance, blinking in rhythm with the evening breeze. The family sits quietly together.
The night settles softly over the field. Vicky closes her eyes, happy and tired after a perfect day.
