Wally jogged up the hill to his weather station. He flipped open his big annual forecast book — and gasped. Every page was blank. The wind howled.
Inside, the barometer needle spun like a dizzy top. The rain gauge overflowed with pink petals. The thermometer showed snow AND sunshine at the same time.
Below, the town was in a tangle. Someone shivered in a winter coat. Another fanned themselves with a newspaper at the spring blossom festival.
Wally rushed through town. At the summer sun parade, he found Bunny bundled in three wool sweaters. "Here," he said, pressing a straw hat into her paws.
Next he found Penguin in swim trunks at the autumn leaf gathering. The penguin was sweating. Wally wrapped a cozy scarf around his shoulders.
Each friend thanked him. But the wind kept howling. The sky still couldn't pick a season.
Wally returned to his station and twisted every dial. Sunny when it was snowy. Rainy when it was clear. He kicked a pile of leaves in frustration.
Something glowed beneath the leaves. Wally dug it out — a golden acorn, pulsing with a soft warm light.
Wally picked up the acorn. The world shivered. Spring blossoms froze mid-bloom. Summer sun dipped behind winter clouds. Autumn leaves swirled into bright heat.
The acorn pulsed. Golden light spread across the sky. Slowly — so slowly — the clouds parted. One clear perfect blue settled over everything.
Wally sat at his desk, opened his forecast book, and wrote the first entry. The town below was dressed just right. He smiled.
The sun warmed his fur. A soft breeze rustled the leaves. Wally looked out over his town, ready for tomorrow's forecast.
