Younes poked a worm with his trowel. A giant shadow swept across the garden bed. He jumped back with a gasp.
Younes ran along the path. The dark shadow glided right behind him. It stayed just out of reach.
He grabbed a trowel and waved it at the shadow. The shadow only danced closer. He narrowed his eyes.
Younes grabbed a bucket and hid behind a rose bush. He waited. When the shadow passed, he slammed the bucket down.
He held his breath and lifted the bucket. A tiny kitten tumbled out. It batted at his fingers.
The shadow on the ground was just the kitten's small shape. Younes let out a long breath. 'Oh,' he whispered.
Younes sat on the grass and let the kitten chase his shoelaces. The kitten pounced and tumbled over itself.
The sun warmed his back. The kitten purred against his knee. Younes smiled and stroked its soft fur.
