Zara pulled a book from beneath the cushion. Sunlight crossed its cover. “What is this?” she whispered.
She opened the book beside the window. Outside, the mosque’s golden dome shone above the rooftops.
Each day, Zara read a little more. Flip, flip, flip—the pages turned softly in the morning light.
The words spoke of one God, kindness, and prayer. Zara paused and looked toward the shining mosque.
“I have been mistaken,” Zara said. A loose page slipped free and floated onto her nose.
Zara read again, slowly and carefully. Then she placed the Quran gently on the table.
“I believe in Islam,” Zara said. She began learning how to pray as the call to prayer rose outside.
Evening light painted the mosque gold. “Alhamdulillah,” Zara said, returning to the page to discover more.
