A cloud slid over the moon. The forest went almost black.
Beside the log, Flickerfin whispered, "No, no, no."
Leaves rustled nearby. Flickerfin dashed after a pale glow between the trees.
Maybe the moon was coming back. But it was only one tiny firefly over the moss.
Blink. The firefly landed on Flickerfin's nose.
Zip! It flew off, and Flickerfin made a surprised little snort that almost sounded like a laugh.
Flickerfin followed the blink-blink glow through the shadowy trees.
One shadow looked like a giant rabbit. One looked like a dancing branch.
One looked like Flickerfin with enormous ears. Flickerfin stopped hiding.
Tap, tap. A paw touched the silly shapes as the firefly glowed bright-dim, bright-dim.
Then the firefly darted under a fallen tree. The black space seemed to swallow the silver light.
A twig snapped. Flickerfin squeezed one eye shut.
Then Flickerfin stepped in after the tiny blink-blink glow.
Whoosh! A whole swirl of fireflies burst up like floating stars.
Flickerfin spun under the sparkling lights and pounced on the bouncing shadows.
When the moon slipped free again, Flickerfin trotted through the bright forest beside the tiny firefly, watching the shadows skip along too.
