The cake pan slid into the glowing oven. Click went the door.
A sweet vanilla smell curled through the warm kitchen. "Is it ready now?" asked Wigglesby.
Waiting felt hard. So Wigglesby made the kitchen busy.
Tap-tap! A spoon rang on the mixing bowl.
Spin-spin! Around the rug went Wigglesby.
Clink, clink, clatter! The measuring cups made a wobbly tower.
But every time Wigglesby peeked through the oven window, the cake still looked puffy and not done.
Wigglesby tried a new plan. Paws down. Count slowly. One... two... three...
At eight, up popped Wigglesby to look again.
Then poof! The cake rose so fast it looked ready to bonk the oven light. "Whoa!" yelped Wigglesby.
The golden top gave a funny little wobble.
Wigglesby backed up and sat on the checkered mat.
No poking. No peeking. No pouncing.
Tick, tick, tick went the timer. Wigglesby kept still.
At last the timer rang. DING!
The cake cooled on the counter while Wigglesby waited a little longer.
Then a soft puff of sugar dust landed right on Wigglesby's nose.
Achoo! Wigglesby gave a tiny sneeze, then laughed and enjoyed the sweet cake without asking, "Now?"
