Leo stands by the trampoline. Kids bounce high into the sky.
*Pop, pop, pop* springs rise and fall. Leo’s toes curl inside his shoes.
One step closer. A leaf skitters at his foot.
He places one foot on the edge. Thump-thump. A drumbeat under his toes.
He hops once—just a little—and flies higher! Surprise! His hat falls off.
Laughter bursts from him. He hops again—higher than before.
Now he’s alone, laughing, each jump bigger than the last.
He soars through the air—no fear now. Just joy.
