As soon as she stepped outside, Xiaohua tightly clutched her backpack. She walked step by step toward the school. Suddenly, the sound of "dingling" rang out at the school gate. Hearing the children talking and laughing, her steps slowed down.
Xiaohua entered the first-grade classroom and gently placed her backpack beside her chair. The chalk writing on the blackboard and the little red flowers swaying by the window immediately caught her eye. The teacher waved at her and said, "Good morning." Xiaohua softly replied, "Good morning."
After sitting down, Xiaohua's fingers still held onto the backpack strap. Her new deskmate smiled at her and gently pushed over a sharpened pencil. A shiny little star sticker was on the pencil. Xiaohua's lips moved slightly, and she quietly said, "Thank you."
The teacher clapped her hands and asked everyone to stand up one by one and say their names. The leaves outside rustled, and the classroom suddenly fell silent. When it was the turn of the student in front, a paper airplane suddenly flew out crookedly and landed with a thud by the teacher's shoe. A few little friends giggled secretly, and Xiaohua almost laughed out loud.
The teacher bent down to pick up the paper airplane, smiling as she placed it on the podium, saying, "Now it’s Xiaohua's turn." Suddenly, everyone looked over. Xiaohua slowly stood up. She first saw the teacher nodding encouragingly, and then she saw her new deskmate giving her a little thumbs-up. Xiaohua took a deep breath and clearly said, "My name is Xiaohua."
As soon as the bell rang for recess, Xiaohua let go of the backpack strap. She followed her new deskmate to see the reading corner at the back of the classroom and the green potted plants on the windowsill. The footsteps in the hallway were lively and cheerful. This time, she smiled and said to the teacher and her new deskmate, "I am Xiaohua."
