In the cozy oak nest, two paws grabbed the last acorn at the very same time. Plink! “It’s mine!” blurted Nibblet.
The acorn wobbled toward the edge. Both siblings lunged. Nibblet snatched it first and darted along the branch.
But the squirrel sibling blocked the way with a fluffy tail. Nibblet scowled and hugged the acorn close. Shhh, shhh, whispered the leaves.
Nibblet hid the acorn under a pile of red-gold leaves. Whoosh! The leaves burst up like confetti.
The acorn spun, bopped Nibblet on the nose, and dropped between them. Nibblet looked at the squirrel sibling. Then Nibblet slowly pushed the acorn to the middle.
Nibblet cracked the acorn open and handed one half to the squirrel sibling. Crunch, crunch. Side by side, they nibbled happily in the cool, leaf-scented air.
