A loud CLANG echoed from the dark garage. Timmy peeked around the heavy wooden door, his eyes wide.
Daddy wrestled with a broken red wagon, his face covered in black grease. Timmy stepped onto the cold concrete floor. "Daddy, what are you doing?"
Daddy wiped his forehead with a dirty rag and smiled. He pulled a shiny metal wrench, but it slipped with a loud screech. The wagon wheel stayed perfectly stuck.
Timmy frowned and scuffed his sneakers against the dusty floor. "Why don't you just stop?" he asked, tilting his head.
"Mommy and I want you to have a fast wagon for our picnic today," Daddy said softly. "I have to keep trying!"
Timmy wanted to help. He pulled a plastic yellow hammer from his toy belt to fix his own broken toy airplane.
With a loud WHACK, the plastic wing popped right off. It clattered across the cold floor, far out of reach.
Timmy threw the yellow hammer down with a thud. He crossed his arms tight and let out a loud, angry huff.
Daddy did not quit. He grabbed a much bigger wrench, grunted loudly, and gave the bolt one final twist.
Pop! The wagon wheel slid perfectly into place with a satisfying click. Daddy gave it a fast spin, showing off the smooth movement.
"See? We keep trying for the people we love," Daddy said. Timmy watched the spinning wheel, then walked slowly over to his dropped yellow hammer.
Timmy picked up the plastic wing and carefully lined it up with the airplane. He pushed down hard. SNAP! The toy lit up with a cheerful beep-beep tune.
Timmy jumped back and giggled as the lights flashed red and blue. He zoomed the airplane through the air, flying it right over Daddy's head.
Mommy opened the garage door, carrying a picnic basket smelling of fresh strawberries. Timmy loaded his airplane, and they rolled the fixed wagon out into the bright sunshine.
