Night had fallen over Leo's room. He jumped on his bed.
Mom opened the door. "Settle down, Leo," she said.
Leo's toes tapped a fast beat against the mattress. The springs creaked louder and louder.
Mom sat beside him. "Let's play the bumpy-breath game," she whispered.
Leo puffed his cheeks and blew out. His whole body swelled up round and round.
He bounced off the bed and zoomed around the room.
He bumped gently into the toy box and his chair. Mom followed, making soft swishing sounds.
"Now let the air out, Leo," Mom whispered.
He whispered a long hush. His body shrank slower and slower until he was just a small boy again.
Leo curled up on his pillow. His breathing slowed to a quiet whoosh, whoosh.
