The old garage door creaked and swung open. The darkness inside was heavy. Then… light.

Lama rolled forward — BANG! It bumped into the sidewalk. A puff of white dust scattered; its lights dimmed, then flickered back on.

Wooo… wooo… Lama moved along slowly. On the sidewalk, a little girl in her wheelchair gripped the ground and cried.

Lama honked: "Beeep!" The girl wiped her tears and looked down: "A little car!" Her laughter bounced off the mirror.

A truck rumbled past: WHOOSH! The wind shoved Lama's wheels and it veered to the right. It steadied itself… and kept going.

The old man stood there with his newspaper. Lama honked: "Beeep!" He set the paper on his knee and smiled: "The little car!" The newspaper fluttered away in the breeze.

Trucks. Buses. Lama… a tiny speck. It stopped. Silence.

A big pothole! Lama's wheel shot up into the air like a spinning coin! Every car turned to look — and a great burst of laughter. Its twinkling lights: Beeep!

A quiet street. An open window, a little girl waving. Lama gave one last soft honk: "Beeep."

It rolled into the garage. The old door creaked. Orange sunset light brushed it through the slanted window. Silence.
