Up the mossy mountain trail, ferns brushed and swayed. Ahead, the bunny popped into view and called, “Race you to the top!”
“Wait for me!” cried Mosswick. Then Mosswick dashed after that white tail.
The path twisted higher and higher. Then a flat stone ledge rose up, too tall for one easy jump.
Mosswick backed up, ran hard, and skritched—slip!—right on the moss.
Dust dotted Mosswick’s nose. Up above, the bunny gave one quick “Boing!” and disappeared over the edge.
Mosswick shook off leaves, huffed once, and found a new way around.
Soon the two of them squeezed along a ferny path. The wind whooshed louder and louder.
“Hello!” called Mosswick. “Hello-lo-lo!” popped a tiny voice back.
For one blink, Mosswick stood still. Then Mosswick laughed. “We sound like mountain giants!”
At last, Mosswick climbed onto the high stone ledge.
Mosswick peeked over. The whole world opened at once.
Treetops spread like a green sea. A river flashed silver. Tiny roofs dotted the far distance beyond home.
Mosswick stood very still in the cool wind. “It’s so big,” whispered Mosswick.
The bunny stayed right there. Together they looked and looked.
Then Mosswick chose a little zigzag trail and started down. “Look, another hill! Look, a shining pond!”
Pebbles clicked under Mosswick’s paws. Mosswick grinned back at the wide view, then hurried on to see what waited around the next bend.
