Deep in the reef, blue-green light shimmered over glowing coral.
Lumora spotted a sea turtle gliding past the coral wall. “Wait for me!” she called.
Beside the purple fan coral, Lumora blinked at her own softer glow before swishing into the tunnel.
Inside, Lumora tried to shine brighter beside the turtle. Then a puff of silver sand made her light wobble and scatter. “Oh,” she said.
Tiny shrimp snapped in the rocks like popcorn. The turtle tapped a fin toward three paths—red, green, and blue.
Lumora followed the red path first. Smooth coral cups gleamed like lanterns all around her.
Next came the green path, where wiggly seaweed made her glow look stripey. Lumora started to giggle.
On the blue path, a sleepy pufferfish went POP! Lumora spun and spun, then burst into bigger giggles.
Why does the reef keep changing my light? Lumora wondered, still giggling.
Soon she and the turtle reached a dark arch. All at once, the glow faded, and the reef turned plain and gray.
Lumora floated close without trying to match the turtle anymore. Her gentle shimmer woke tiny dots in the coral.
Then the turtle’s shell sent broad bands of light across the stone. Together, they made a sparkling rainbow road.
Lumora swam out under the shining arch with a happy twirl.
Now she played a new game. In each corner of the reef, she tried her own glow instead of matching.
Lumora twirled through soft seaweed. The turtle glided over glittering sand. The coral answered both with different colors.
Their laughter bubbled up through the water as the whole reef blinked and beamed around them.
