Woolsey trotted to the sunny meadow barbershop and stopped at the door.
Inside, the silver scissors went snip-snip in the light. “Maybe not today,” whispered Woolsey.
The barber rolled the chair closer. “We can start small,” said the barber.
Snip. The barber clipped a tiny puff from a wool brush instead.
The little fluff drifted down like a snowflake. Woolsey stepped one hoof closer.
Up climbed Woolsey onto the chair.
Fwump! The big cape covered almost everything, and down slid Woolsey again.
Woolsey blinked at the soft cloth. Outside, bees hummed by the window.
Then Woolsey laughed. Just two ears popped up over the top.
“Ready?” asked the barber. Woolsey held very, very still.
Snip by one ear. Snip by the other. Snip under the chin.
A round curl tumbled onto Woolsey’s nose.
Woolsey giggled and blew the curl away.
The mirror began to show a neat new face.
The barber turned the mirror. A smiling lamb with tidy wool and bright eyes smiled back.
Woolsey hopped down feeling light and patted the soft new trim.
Out through the wildflowers trotted Woolsey. Ding! went the little bell at the door.
This time, Woolsey did not whisper, “Maybe not today.”
