Good morning, garden! Your Child pulls on the little daisy gloves and skips down the path. The dew sparkles like tiny stars. What is the garden up to today?
Uh-oh — a little earthworm is stuck on the hot stone path, wiggling and tired. Gentle gloved hands scoop it up, ever so softly. "Don't worry, little one. I'll take you home."
The worm wiggles down into the cool, crumbly soil, and the loosened earth makes the flowers stand up happy. Up on the fence, a little robin has seen it all.
The bird bath is all dried up — not one drop left. Splish, splash — Your Child tips the watering can and fills it right to the brim! "There you go, little bird!"
Splash! The robin takes a happy bath, flinging sparkly drops everywhere. Just then, a tiny ladybug comes tumbling by on the wind — whoops, wibble-wobble, upside down!
Plip, plop — here comes the rain! Quick as a wink, Your Child props up a big green leaf, like a tiny umbrella for the ladybug. "There. Now you'll stay warm and dry."
"Meow…" comes a small voice in the rain. Under the bench hides a hungry stray cat, wet and shivery, too scared to come out. Two round eyes blink in the shadow.
Chasing would only scare it. So Your Child thinks for a moment, sets down some food, and steps back, back, back… then waits, quiet and still as a flower.
The cat eats every last bite, then nuzzles Your Child's glove — soft, soft. The sun peeks out again, and one by one, all the little friends come hopping, fluttering, wiggling over!
In the golden evening, everyone snuggles close on the porch step. Little kindnesses, day by day, grow into something big and warm — warm as the setting sun. What a lovely day.
